In many Black communities across the United States, the Black Church is seen as a prominent historical and cultural fixture. However, in heavily gentrified neighborhoods like Harlem, NY, many of the Black churches are faced with the side effects of gentrification. These effects are often products of Black churches being bought out by property investors, and members of the community being forced out due to increased cost of living. In a two semester long reported project, I delved deeper into the current state of historically Black Churches in the Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem.
