Tabius McCoy
Tabius McCoy is a photo documentarian based in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was born and raised on the city's Southeast side. His journey into photography began during his second year as an undergraduate at Georgia Tech, sparked by the powerful documentary Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks, which was introduced to him by his mother. Deeply moved by Gordon Parks' legacy, Tabius found his creative calling and soon purchased his first camera—a Canon Rebel T3i—from a local pawn shop in December 2021. Since then, his camera has rarely left his side.
Tabius is a graduate of Columbia University’s School of Journalism, where he honed his craft in documentary photography. His work is driven by a passion for capturing the life, culture, and stories of communities that are often underrepresented.
Currently, he is working on a long-form film photo project titled Back to My Roots, which documents the narratives of Black-owned farms across the United States. Through this project, Tabius aims to preserve and celebrate the rich agricultural heritage and resilience of Black farmers in America.
